Davis quits as MP

David Davis, one of the Conservatives' best-known MPs, has resigned as Shadow Home Secretary.

The move has been a shock to the political world, and has been planned in order to trigger a by-election. Davis will fight to be re-elected, on a stance of being opposed to the prospect of being able to arrest and detain suspects for up to 42 days without charge, which was approved in the Commons yesterday.

The bill, supposedly aimed at combatting terrorism, changes the present limit of 28 days - which itself had been extended from 48 hours between 2000 and 2006.

The BBC is reporting that Davis has made a deal with Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg - whose party, along with the Conservatives, also opposed the changes - that a Lib Dem candidate would not be put forward for the race.

Disgusting lack of investment in St George

In a written answer to a question from the Conservatives, it has been revealed that, in the past five years, the pitifully miniscule sum of £230 has been spent on promoting St. George's Day.

Meanwhile, that very same Government has been urging the public to "reclaim the day from bigots".

England's national day, celebrated on the 23rd of April, had just £116 of investment this year, £114 last year, and nothing in the previous three.

Yet another abhorrently shameful case of dictatorial do-as-we-say-not-as-we-do socialist politics.

London Transport alcohol ban

New London mayor Boris Johnson today formally announced the banning of consumption of alcohol on London's buses, Tube, trams, mainline trains, and the DLR. The plan was one of Johnson's election pledges - he beat Ken Livingstone's bid for a third mayoralty term last Thursday - and will come into effect on 1st June 2008.

Firefighters under attack

Whilst official government figures show that attacks on firefighters dropped from 1,300 in 2006 to just 400 in 2007, the FBU's Easy Targets? report has shown an INCREASE to 1,500.

Aside from the unique case of the government getting something wrong, this is an utterly abhorrent situation. These brave men and women are supposed to be offering us protection and performing life-saving tasks in tricky circumstances, and yet receive no more respect than a tramp.

According to the report, most attacks take place in the North-West of England, particularly in areas of poor housing and/or social depravation. Whilst that's not exactly what one would call a surprise, I just do not understand the mentality of the kinds of scum who do such a thing.

A number of specific cases were highlighted in the report:

John Cartwright, a firefighter in Greater Manchester, said he and his colleagues were attacked as they tried to put out a large bonfire.

He said: "We began to extinguish the fire, then we were making up the equipment when we were attacked by about 30 youths. One of the firefighters had six on top of him, punching him. They chucked bottles at us, bricks, garden ornaments."

And not forgetting:

In one incident a hoaxer lured firefighters to a supposed car fire in Cheshire before attacking them with bricks. In another, a petrol bomb was thrown at a fire engine in Merseyside as firemen tackled a rubbish blaze.

All I can say is that, with any luck, the perpetrators of such abhorrent attacks will need help one day, but be within what the fire brigades have defined as a no-go area. Similar incidents have been highlighted recently concerning attacks on ambulance and medical staff on emergency call-outs, so perhaps that is the only answer.

Finance shock: aid prone to corruption

In a shocking announcement (!), the National Audit Office has this week said that the aid given by the UK to other countries - apparently a £461 million budget - is often misused, and most of that awarded in 2007 went to countries with major corruption scandals.

Wow. This is perhaps the most shocking piece of news that I've heard. Ever. I mean, hard-earned British tax-payers' money being wasted elsewhere?! Who would have believed it?

In case you didn't know, I'm being sarcastic.

What a sorry situation we've got ourselves in. Can we not just cut off all overseas aid? It seems that most of the problems we have here could be solved with a bit of investment, and I fail to see how we can go around wasting our money when there are such grave problems at home. Seriously, how can we go around lecturing other people how to run their country - and giving them our money - when we can't get our own house in order? Preposterous situation.

Cancel all aid and spend it here.

Sharia law - the infiltration

As has been widely reported over the past 24 hours or so, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, yesterday stated that the adoption of some aspects of Sharia law within the British criminal and civil judicial systems is inevitable. He states that we must "face up to the fact" that certain communities (translation: some Muslims) do not relate to our legal system.

Well, I've got news for you. Not many people relate to our legal system. The overruling of British courts by European meddlers, the effective ban on protests near Parliament, the banning of hunting with hounds, and God only knows how many other ridiculous pieces of legislation passed (particularly in the past decade). None of them sit will with me, and likewise for thousands of other law-abiding citizens. But we haven't been given our own set of laws because we want to do x, y and/or z. We have to conform to the laws set out by the United Kingdom's Governments, whether we believe and support them or not.

So why should the relatively miniscule Muslim community be awarded its own set of opt-out legislation and allowances? Taking cultural differences into account when dealing with comparitively trivial matters such as divorce, banking and child custody is one thing, but adopting whole sweeping aspects of Sharia (which, I am informed, quite ironically means "path to water") law is another matter entirely.

Whether really being fully proposed or not, the idea of introducing new laws in such a manner for one group just because they don't approve of our existing laws is preposterous. This is (supposedly) a free country, whose laws, cultural aspects and society are based on Christian tolerance, not the backwards logic of people who sentence rape victims to lashings, enjoy public executions as punishment for pretty minor offences, and hand out prison sentences to women who have spoken to men not within her own family. I would not travel to a Muslim state and be able to walk down the street wearing an unbuttoned, loudly-coloured shirt and eating pork sausages, so why should people come here and expect the equivalent? Another example of the twisted, self-centred, intolerant logic of some cultures.

But of course, I can't really believe that Dr Williams is a stupid man, so perhaps his intention was to raise debate and actually make people wake up and realise what is going on in our fair country? If so, he's a crafty bugger. If not, he's just a pillock.

Quite simply, if you don't like our laws, our society, our way of life - the fuck off somewhere else.

You DON'T want a referendum

Whilst I Want A Referendum is being labelled a "dishonest" marketing exercise for the Conservative Party by one socialist nutjob, members of the PLP who support the campaign have apparently been threatened with explusion from the party if they do not withdraw their IWAR backing.

Yep, expulsion from the Labour Party for supporting one of their own manifesto promises, after totally free votes on the Iraq war, for example. It says a lot really, doesn't it?

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the near-Nazi state of the European Union, it's being reported that the EU Parliament's "speaker" has been given the power to decide who can and cannot speak in said Parliament. The move has apparently come after UKIP MEPs protested against the upcoming constitution, and is in the interest of protecting freedom of speech. How that quite works I don't know, but then when has common sense or logic had anything at all to do with the European Union, or Europeans in general?

Wendy the slippery cow

Wendy Alexander, Donald Duck lookalike, possibly the most slapable woman in Scotland, leader of the Scottish Labour Party and sister of the current Chancellor of the Exchequor, was yesterday in essence cleared of any wrongdoing by accepting donations from a Jersey-based businessman, breaking electoral law as he is neither a UK resident nor registered to vote here.

The Electoral Commission, who had been investigating the case, decided that there was insufficient evidence to refer the issue to prosecutors, and 'Ms' Alexander maintains that the outcome has proven her "honest and integrity".

Utter bollocks. I can just about believe that she may not personally have been aware that the money in question was from someone barred from making such donations, but her little team clearly were, and as their leader she should take ultimate responsibility for the clear breach of electoral law which has been committed. Electoral law which was devised and passed by her own party just a few years ago. If this were a Conservative or SNP MSP, I have no doubt that 'Ms' Alexander would be doing her raving na-na in demand for a resignation, but again it seems to be one-rule-for-them, one-rule-for-Labour.

Aside from her own blatant disregard for morals and the "honesty and integrity" which she so fervently proclaims to possess, the idea that there is insufficient evidence to bring the case to prosecutors ia ridiculous. Either illegal donations were taken, or they weren't. And they were. It has been proven, shown, and admitted that they were. And yet no one in the Alexander camp is taking any responsibility for the sorry affair. They cannot possibly claim to have not known that what they were doing was illegal. And even if they do, why does that excuse them? If a person with, for example, severe learning difficulties beats someone to death, then they are prosecuted and punished. The "I didn't know it was illegal" argument simply would not stand up, and should not be accepted here either.

Another instance of the Labour Party showing contempt for the electorate and for its own laws. But hey, what's new, right?

We've barely got rid of the slimy little shit for 5 minutes - nevermind his highly amusing appointment as a PEACE envoy in the MIDDLE EAST. But now the shadow of Herr Blair looms low over Britain once again, as increasing speculation suggests that the original war criminal is in line to become the first President of the European Union.

He really is like that last poo nugget that won't flush. Will Blair never leave us be? The deluded fool cannot be allowed to reign over us yet again. The mere thought is utterly abhorrent, let alone if it follows through to practice.

That's the United Federal States of Europe. Not quite an official name as yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's forced upon us in the near future.

Yes, in all the utter ridiculity of signing it seperately and away from the cameras because he knows that he shouldn't be and that the whole country hates him for it, the Great Leader himself, Gordon Brown, yesterday signed his EU constitution treaty. Yes, it still must be ratified by Governments, but for the large part that's little more than a formality. This constitution - sorry, treaty (oh fuck it, everyone knows they're one and the same) - will further erode our own ability to govern ourselves.

So, what does it include? Well, for a start there's the creation of a European President. Another overpaid, undemocratic and largely pointless position for someone else to ride the gravy train. There's also the loss of the British veto in dozens of areas (60, some places have quoted), and the submission of immigration powers to the European Court of 'Justice'. Then there's the new foreign minister, and the ability for the EU to sign international treaties as if it were a real, single country.

Oh, and for the average man on the street, the EU will have the power (and already has the will) to implement road-pricing. Enjoy!

Some of you may remember the promise at the 2005 election that we, the British public would be given a referendum on the EU constitution. Well, we haven't had one, and there are presently no plans to give us one. This increasingly dictatorial and undemocratic present Government insist, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that the 'treaty' is not the consitution, and so we don't need one. You want one? Well well well. Gillian Gibbons, a 54 year-old teacher from Liverpool who for some inexplicable reason decided to move to Sudan and teach in a 'British' school there, has been charged under local blasphemy laws, and if convicated faces six months in jail, forty lashes (apparently often fatal), or a fine. Why? Because she allowed her class of seven year olds to name a teddy bear 'Mohammed'.

Yes, you read that correctly.

It would appear that the children voted for the name Mohammed after the class's most popular boy (called Mohammed, obviously). But as he was named in honour of the Muslim prophet Mohammed (or Muhammed - they don't seem to be able to decide on the spelling), this is considered to be blasphemy, and highly insulting to Islam. Hmm.

On one hand, I have little sympathy for the woman. Having gone out to such a backwards country, she really should have been a bit more careful to abide by local laws. On the other hand, these people are totally mental, and so far backwards that they're almost coming back again. There was quite clearly not malicious or blasphemous intent in calling a teddy bear Mohammed, and they need to grow the fuck up. Apparently it's all part of the West's anti-Islam plot, but being so utterly nonsensical doesn't exactly help their case or earn them much support or sympathy now, does it? At least the Muslim Council of Great Britain (or whatever they're called) have condemned the Sudanese authorities.

I'm A Shit TV Programme ... I Must Be On ITV!

The papers today are reporting that Malcolm McLaren, the former manager of the Sex Pistols, who was due to appear on this year's series of ITV1 worse-than-watching-a-televised-rape TV programme I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! , has pulled out literally hours before the show was scheduled to start. Not only does it leave them in a bit of shit, what with the whole being one person down and being filmed in the Australian jungle, but this BBC News Online article says "McLaren was arguably the biggest name on the show."

If he was the biggest name on the show, they've got more to worry about than just that he decided not to take part. Scraping the fucking barrel doesn't even begin to cover it.

A Grand Committee

Under proposals drawn up by ex-minister Sir Malcolm Rifkind, the Conservatives are considering an English Grand Committee (as reported in this BBC News article).

The plans - currently being considered for introduction as official party policy - would see a new 'Grand Committee' introduced, to sit in the House of Commons. The committee would be comprised of English MPs, and have sole influence and say over issues which affect England alone.

Although not quite the full, seperate English Parliament that many call for, the so-called EVoEL settlement would be a huge step towards justice, democracy, and fair treatment of English people.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party - particularly delusional harpie Harriet Harman - have been swearing that black is lime green:

I think this is a very, very dangerous line of argument that the Conservatives are pushing. They used to be the Conservative and Unionist Party and now they are making proposals which wouldn't help strengthen regional accountability in England but would actually, I think, threaten the Union.

Aside from the fact that, as proven in a referendum in the north-east of England a few years back, NO ONE wants the regional assemblies which she is referring to with the vile term "regional accountability", this is pretty rich coming from the deputy leader of the party who created this "dangerous" imbalance in the first place. With individual democratic institutions responsible for certain areas of policy in each of the other three constituent countries of the UK, and England left off to be dictated to purely by the British Parliament (including MPs who have no accountability over those who their votes affect), the present imbalance is far more dangerous, and infinitely more damaging, than anything the Conservatives could propose. The vile, left-wing-posing-as-right-wing-to-win-votes modern Labour Party have a grip on reality and affinity with the people which seems to diminish by the day (and in the latter case, was arguably never really there in the first place). If there is just one thing, in the 300 years since the union was formed, which has destabilised and damaged it, then it is Labour's devolution - and particularly lack thereof, as far as England is concerned.

Meanwhile, as Labour continue to rely on polls years old to back up their "England doesn't want a Parliament" argument, ignoring dozens over the past few years which show overwhelming support to the exact opposite, the public gain increasingly restless.

As regular and long-time readers may be aware, whilst I certainly believe that there is an imbalance which must be addressed, I do not personally support the idea of an English Parliament. Rather, I support the idea of reversing devolution totally (perhaps not in the case of Northern Ireland of course - could get a bit messy). Apart from my own pride in Britain, this is perhaps primarily through tax concerns. A good couple of billion pounds (that's a real billion, not an I-can't-count American billion) must go to the running of the Welsh and Northern Irish assemblies, as well as the Scottish Parliament, already. And that's without taking into account the inevitably horrendously bloated civil services in each. So how much more would an English Parliament cost? An English Parliament which would of course cover a far, far greater area and populus than any of the other three. We need to be making cutbacks and spending the money on worthwhile causes and services, not throwing more at the latest version of democracy.

I fear, however, that that is far from likely.

Yes, the persecution and blatant robbery (nevermind what is arguably a small-scale attempt at an ethnic cleansing of the English) continues to grow, with the announcement from Holyrood that, as of April 2008, all those who are "chronically ill" will have totally free prescriptions (although I'm yet to discover the exact definition of "chronic", as free prescriptions are available in England to some). And by 2011, it is intended that all charges for all Scots will be totally free.

Meanwhile, you guessed, the English taxpayer continues to not only foot the estimated £70 million bill, but also receive far, far substandard service in return.

The sadly-not-at-all-surprising news comes alongside Scottish schools beginning a pilot scheme that will eventually provide all primary-school children (supposedly up to year 3 only, but let's wait and see it expand) with totally free school dinners. Below the border, our children face skank being dished up to them at the production cost of 37p - yes, that's less than is spent on a prisoner's meal - and they still have to pay for the privilege. But never fret, Mr. English, for the lovely Government have promised to increase that! To 50p. When? Well there's no date that I'm aware of, but feel free to comment if you know. Back up north, the production can cost no less than 70p. That's the best part of 200% the English rate.

When will the public wake up and realise just what is happening? Whilst this information is admittedly from the Daily Mail and so perhaps not entirely objective, the old adage that "there's no smoke without fire" is only too apt. My God. I can't believe that anyone could come up with such cack (but then they are all Europeans); yes, that's right. The latest pro-EU propaganda is aimed directly at children - Captain Euro.

The adventures of the bell-end in blue (not forgetting his team, The Twelve Stars organisation, of course) centre on the defeat of the most evil of villains, Dr. D. Vider, whose sole objective is to break up the union of peace, prosperity and good that is the European Union. Oh, and they compete in international sporting events for the union as well. And lead scientific discovery, no doubt. (Captain Euro himself is a professor of paleontology, don't you know?) I think it quite amusing, nevermind apt, that the Captain's real name is Adam Andros.

As is hinted at over at Wonko's World, this is not only blatant and unashamed propaganda, but almost certainly for the "benefit" of the children of the United Kingdom. What a pity that the use of propaganda is illegal in the UK's schools - although I daresay that they believe that they are far above the law.

If I had children, and I found that they had been exposed to this mind-bending insanity at school, I would not think twice before sueing. I've always said that the EU is ultimately exactly what Hitler wanted, and now they using Nazi-style propaganda tactics too.

Crossrail needs your cash

Good old Ken. After previously promising that the funding of Crossrail would NOT require a far increase, what has he announced? Yes, that's right. A fare increase. And by how much? He can't say.

John Denham, the incumbent Minister for Universities and Skills, has on tonight's Question Time just said that the Government will not hold a referendum in regards to the new European treay/constitution - and partially because the Conservatives didn't hold one in regards to Maastricht (1992), as an example.

So, now the Labour Party are not doing things because the Conservative Party didn't do them 15+ years ago? And they're using the mistakes of the past as an excuse for making new mistakes? Absolutely pathetic.

With a whopping majority of 11,509 votes - that's 79% of the total number of votes cast - Boris Johnson has undeniably and undisputedly been elected as the Conservative candidate for London Mayor.

New York-born Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson will certainly bring a touch of colour to the race.

Now let's just hope that he can win, and rid us of that pesky Livingstone fellow for good.

Straw: No English votes

A Telegraph 'comment' article today, from the pen of Jack Straw, has once again reiterated the nonsense argument that "English votes for English laws" would break up the union.

He says,

David Cameron's policy of "English votes for English laws" might seem like a neat and tidy solution to the so-called "West Lothian Question", the debate about whether Scottish MPs should be able to vote on matters only affecting England, but in practice it would lead to constitutional chaos and the break-up of the United Kingdom.

Whether or not one agrees with the idea of "English votes for English laws", this argument is pathetic. The Scots have "Scottish votes for Scottish and English laws", and so have already created that other notorious ant-EvfEl argument; that it would create two classes of MPs in Westminster.

The Labour party are getting more ridiculous and delusional by the day. And the sad thing is that, should an autumn election be called, the brainless idiots who are the British public will once again almost certainly return them in a majority. To say that it's worrying is an understatement.

Labour politician: corrupt an understatement

A "rising star" of the Labour party was on Friday found guilty of breaking election law - at recent council elections, she won a Liberal Democrat 'stronghold' seat by smearing the name of her Lib Dem opponent.

After pointing out - as if it were an horendous, abhorrent crime - that the man was gay, she then went on to accuse him of being a paedophile, with a particular penchant for oriental boys.

Since then, not only did he lose his place on the council, but he and his family have been driven from the borough after suffering abuse, threats, being spat at in the street, and even followed home, all at the hands of people foolish enough to believe a Labour politician.

I only hope that he will bring a further suit against the woman. She has been fined a measly £1,000, and been suspended from her position on the council with immediate effect. With any luck, she will be removed completely. In court, she even had the nerve to dismiss the case as a "plot" by Liberal Democrats upset by her win.

"Truth, morals and justice are never bedfellows with socialists and multiculturalists." - Never a truer word was spoken, in this case at least.
